To be clear, it wasn't really a knock-off, it was built under license.
I figure you're aware of that, hence the quotes around knock-off, just wanted to clarify for everyone
By contrast, this was a total knockoff:
I can do a full write up on it sometime, but basically Russia kept asking the US for B-29s and the US said no. However, a handful of B-29's made emergency landings or crashed in Russia, so they interned them, tore them apart, and rebuilt their own copies. They ended up building nearly 850 of them!
